Infinite Monkey II
The infinite monkey theorem is often told through Shakespeare: given endless random keystrokes, every play will almost surely be written. This experiment takes the metaphor literally, one symbol at a time.
Its target is Pisanio’s line from Cymbeline: “Fortune brings in some boats that are not steered.” The system chooses from 61 letters, spaces, and punctuation marks. A correct symbol moves the attempt forward; a wrong one sends it back to the beginning. The same live attempt and running total are shared by every visitor.
To complete all 50 symbols without a mistake has a probability of one in 6150. Infinity makes that outcome almost certain. Any practical span of time makes it effectively impossible. The line itself feels apt: the experiment has a destination, but no one is at the wheel.
